African drumming Akwaaba Corymbia festival Kalamunda Australia 2018

more than 5000 people attended the Corymbia Multicultural Festival at Hartfield Park in Forrestfield. The Mayor of City of Kalamunda John Giardina said the free community festival will attract many families to enjoy amazing performances, live music and dance from many different cultures. It brings everyone together to recognise and celebrate our diverse backgrounds. We are very lucky to be able to experience and enjoy the stories, food, dance, music and rituals of countries from all around the globe right here in our City.

About Akwaaba African Drumming

Akwaaba (“uh-kwaa-buh”)…meaning “welcome” in the Akan language from Ghana, Akwaaba’s vision is to use traditional African drumming and music as a tool to promote harmony and cultural understanding within the West Australian community.​
Led by Paul Osei Kofi, Akwaaba has been entertaining a wide variety of audiences for over 20 years with energetic, powerful and interactive performances, drum circles and workshops. Our use of traditional African hand drums and other percussion instruments bring alive the rhythms of Africa.
We also strongly support and encourage the continuation of traditional African art and handicrafts and sell a wide range of hand made African products through our shop at the Wanneroo Markets.
Paul Osei Kofi, the master drummer with Akwaaba, runs drumming workshops for people interested in learning how to play the djembe, dundun, bell and shakers. You’ll be taught how to perfect the basic techniques of African hand drumming while learning a variety of exciting rhythms from all over West Africa. His classes cater for the novice right through to the skilled drummer who wants to add a little bit of spice to their drumming style. Instruments are supplied at every class.
